Amer Fort of Jaipur is one of the most beautiful and well-maintained forts of Rajasthan that is located roughly 11 km away from the main city.

Do you know why it is called Suraj Pol?
Because this gate is east facing, so the first sunlight falls on it thus it is named Suraj Pol.
The other gate which leads you to the palaces inside Amer fort is called Ganesh Pol which is named after a Hindu deity Ganesh Ji.
The architectural beauty of Ganesh Pol is one of the main attractions inside the fort that makes people visit Amer fort. It is one of the most Instagram worthy spots inside the fort.

Other attraction inside the fort is Sheesh(Mirror) Mahal (Palace), this whole palace is carved with small and medium sized mirrors and is surely an eye soother.
There used to be a secret tunnel from Amer fort to Jaigarh fort which is now open for public also, so make sure to enjoy this secret tunnel and be stunned by the bygone era.
The Maota Lake in the foreground just adds up to the beauty of Amer fort and reflects its beauty all around. This lake has a garden as well which looks as if it’s floating on water. This garden is called Kesar Bagh as the plants grown here are of Kesar which is quite expensive and rarely found.
This fort is a perfect blend of Rajput and Mughal Architecture.
How to reach Amer Fort:
The best thing about Jaipur is that it is very well connected with public transport, so if you are low on budget you can hop on an AC bus from Ajmeri Gate and reach Amer in just Rs 25.
Other options can be an Auto Rickshaw or Taxi, but always bargain with them and at least try to get them down by Rs 50 – Rs 100 of whatever they ask for.

Timings of the Fort:
Amer Fort is open every day from 10 AM (8 AM in summers) till 5:30 PM.
Entry Ticket Cost?
Well, the best part about the Amer fort is that there are no fees till the main courtyard which you enter through Suraj pol. You can visit till there for free if you wish to see the Sheesh Mahal and the palace which you obviously do only then you have to pay.
The fee is – Rs 100 for Indian tourists and Rs 500 for foreign tourists. There is a concession for students so do bring your ids along with you to avail huge discounts.
If you wish to visit the fort in a royal way, similar to that of Raja (King) then you can opt for an Elephant ride. These gigantic elephants will take you all the way up to the Suraj pol in the most elite manner. It is surely a once in a lifetime experience.
This elephant ride will cost Rs 1000 for 2 people.
Night Show At Amer Fort:
The usual shut down timings of visiting Amer fort are 5:30 pm and after that, a night show is conducted where the history of the fort is presented on a very large screen.
The timings for which are:
- October to February – 6:30 Pm ( English) and 7:30 Pm ( Hindi)
- March to April – 7 Pm (English) and 8 Pm (Hindi)
- May to September – 7:30 Pm (English) and 8:30 Pm (Hindi)

Trek In front of Amer Fort :
This one is an add-on that you get here on this website only, there is a small trek that takes you on the top of the mountain which once used to be a watchtower.
But believe me, it is not for the weak-hearted people; although this trek is the simplest of any treks but one of the most tiring one. The stairs are so huge at some points it almost makes your leg touch your chest.
So, if you happen to go on this trek, make sure you have plenty of water and some eatables.

If you happen to enjoy beer and cool music overlooking the majestic Amer fort, then you can go to Stag Restaurant just opposite to the main entrance of the fort.
