I know that it is very exciting and you have big ambitions from your blog already but you fear few things too.
I know this because I had the same feeling 4 years back.
The reason behind this post is not to burst your little bubble of dream but only to make you aware of the reality.
So, that I can motivate you to work harder to achieve your goals.
5 Things To Know Even Before Starting Your Blog
1. What Do You Want To Blog About?
This is a very basic but important question that you should answer yourself in the first place.
What is that thing you want to blog about?
Let me break it down more to help you further:
Think of your website as a business, so to start a business, you first need to think what type of business you want to start.
Either you want to open a restaurant, a coaching or a product based company or it can be anything.
So, the blogs topic totally depends upon you:
There are infinte topics that you can choose to blog upon, but you should choose something that you have interest in and have sound knowledge in it.
Something that you can’t stop thinking about, something that you are passionate about.
But most importantly… A topic with which you can solve the problems of people all around the globe.
- Let’s say you know a great deal of things about Photography.
So you can start your blog website/blog around photography.
Where you can teach people about the camera basics, how to tips,
- Or you might have good knowledge of Gyming and Dieting.
With this type of blog you can help people with things like, what to eat pre and post workouts, best protein supplements, leg exercise and everything that can help people.
By now you should have got the idea of what I’m talking about.
So decide your topic even before you own a blog.
2. Do People Even Search About it?
Okay, so earlier I told you to decide the topic ( or niche as known in Blogsphere) on which you want to blog about.
So, you thought hard and have a topic in your mind.
Congratulations! You have cleared the first step.
But, now you have to see that whether that topic is in trend or not.
Like you don’t want to start a website on a topic that no one searches about. Who will read it then.
As I told earlier having a website is like a business, and your visitors are your customers.
So if you blog about something that noone is interested in, there is no point in doing that.
So how do you even get to know that if people are interested in your decided topic or not.
Don’t worry I will help you with that, it is very easy – Just follow these steps:
Go to Google.
Type Google Trends in the search box.
Click on the first result.
Now type in your decided topic (photography here) and see its trend along the years.
See, this is how easy it is.
3. How Will You Add Value – Research Your Industry
Okay, so you have already decided your topic and also checked whether it is in trend or not.
Now, you have to ask yourself a question.
How can you solve people’s problem with the topic you have decided?
And also there are high chances that the topic you have decided already have tons of content over the internet.
So what is that extra valuable thing you can provide.
Don’t get demotivated here, thinking that your topic is already been covered.
Google always loves new and fresh content. A content that is more detailed and has a better way of solving the problem.
And you will be shocked to know that more than a Trillion searches are made over Google within a span of 1 month.
So don’t worry there are millions of people waiting to consume your content.
Just provide valuable content.
4. Learn A Little Bit About Keyword Research
You need to know a little bit about keywords and keyword research before you own a blog.
I will do a detailed post on what is a keyword and how to do keyword research very soon.
But for now, just take a little tour on, What a keyword is?
It is the term you type inside google’s search box.
Okay! so when you type – Who is the best actor in world?
Here “best actor in world” is the keyword.
Or suppose you type – “How to make tea?”
Here – “Make tea” is the keyword. Google filters out terms like “How”, “what” and similar terms, they are called stop keywords.
Keywords are term around which you make a post.
Just like the post you are currently reading is made around the keyword – “Things you should know before starting your blog”
So why is it important to research about the keyword.
Because a keyword helps Google to understand what the blog article is about and further help ranking the article too.
Don’t worry in coming articles ,I make will it crystal clear to you.
5. Web Content Writing is different.
Certainly if you are entering in this digital space. You will hear this term a lot that “Content is King”.
It surely does decide the success of your website/blog.
If you think you are good at writing content and people will understand it easily. That’s good.
But writing web content is a bit different than normal.
You have to follow a certain set of rules to get high ranking in Google, and if you don’t follow them there are high chances your content will never find a place in Google’s page 1 or 2.
And think hard, when was the last time you went to page 3 or farther to get the answer on Google… We hardly do that ever.
So, its bad for your website to be on ranking on page 3 and even 2nd page won’t send any valuable traffic.
So, its kind of important to learn these basic writing skills – it is called On-Page SEO.
That I will cover in the future articles.
I wanted to make you aware of these things because I don’t want you to start your own blog and have no idea what to do with it
