This term has created a lot of noise in the past 5 years and the craze for it seems to be going nowhere in the near future.
And, If I’m not wrong the trend is going to go up in the coming year.
But… what the heck actually is this Digital Marketing??
You surely want to know about it… That’s why you are here.
You see… This is the power of Digital Marketing.
Or how else, Google will know what you are searching for? How it always end up showing you the results that you searched for?
Now don’t tell me that its a Search Engine, Dude! This is what it is made to do duh…
I very well know what it is…
But still, there have to be some rules that help figure out search engines (like – Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo) what people are looking for.
It’s all the part of Digital Marketing that you are going to learn through this post, so yeah let’s learn the interesting stuff about the Internet.
So What Is Digital Marketing?
It is like very simple to understand it. Just break the term into 2, you have Digital + Marketing.
So whenever you market ( promote or make people aware of ) any product, services or anything digitally with the help of digital products it is called Digital Marketing.
Wow, that was such a cliche explanation. Internet is stuffed with these type of boring definitions already.
This is not what you came for… Right?
So let me explain to you “What is Digital Marketing” with the easiest way possible.
Real Life Examples where you encounter Digital Marketing Unknowingly.
When you search for a Restaurant Online and their Website pops up. Giving you all the information about the variety of delicious dishes and the world-class ambiance they have. What time they open and shut down and their contact details.
What are they doing here?
They are making it easy for you to contact them and get to know about their business digitally, this is Digital Marketing.
When you see an Instagram page, Facebook page or Youtube Channel of any brand, where they keep you updated about their products or services. It is called Social Media Marketing which is a part of Digital Marketing.
All the sponsored post that you see quite often are also a part of it.
Suppose you want to buy a camera. And you type in “Best Camera In 2019” in the search box.
The first result that shows up in Google is from Canon. Where they are telling you about their best camera and their features and why they would suit you the best.
This is called Content Marketing, which is a part of Digital Marketing.
Where a company publishes content around their product to increase sales and awareness.
I guess this is getting a bit tough now, so I will tell you about all these things in detail in coming articles, for now let’s focus on Digital Marketing as a whole.
Digital Marketing is a broad term that stands for everything you do digitally.
Let me make it simpler for you, it is just like Engineering. When you say Engineering, then Computer Science, Mechanical, Civil and all other branches comes in your mind automatically.
And when someone say, I am an Engineer. You ask their specialization.
In the same way, Digital Marketing also stands for many different things combined together:
Don’t get overwhelmed. You don’t need to learn everything to become a Digital Marketer.
So, from the real life examples that I gave you above what did you learn from those?
It clearly shows that Digital Marketing can help any business ( be it small or big) get more customers, increase sales and get more awareness about their business.
The more the people knows about your business there are high chances the sales will go up.
And with Digital Marketing, you can actually target the right audience that you think might me interested in your product or business.
What Do you Mean By Targeted???
Why do think every business is turning towards Digital Marketing and Traditional marketing is losing its grip slowly.
Okay let me take you back to the time, when we had no smartphones and surfing Internet was an expensive affair.
What source does business had to make us aware of their products earlier… Newspaper, Pamphlet and Tv Ads( Not everyone can afford TV Ads though)
Newspaper, Pamphlet, Billboards etc they all come under Traditional Marketing.
They are surely a good way to educate people about a certain business. No wonder, they still hold a significant role in today’s marketing era too.
Newspapers still come with those flashy car advertisement whenever there is a new launch.
We still see big hoardings of Mcdonalds, Coaching Centers and what not.
But there are many drawbacks of Traditional Marketing:
1.These are very expensive.
2. They are not targeted.
What do I mean by that is, it is available to everyone. A billboard is seen by everyone.
Whether you are school kid, a housewife, a businessman or anyone.So its conversion rate is very low.
Suppose there is Real Estate Billboard Ad on the corner of a road, there are high chances a school kid will never be interested in it.
3. There is no way to measure its ROI ( Return on Investment).
What does that mean?
See every business has a particular amount of money to be invested in Marketing and all.
With traditional marketing there is no way to calculate how much people actually turned into a customer seeing your Ad.
You getting my point right…
This is the same case with Newspaper ads, these ads are set for very broad audience and that’s why the conversion rates are very less. And also costs more.
On the other hand Digital Ads can be laser targeted to the right audience, if you know what you are doing and they are dirt cheap.
You can select the area where you want the Ads to display, the age group and what not.
And on top of that you can also check how many people clicked on your ads and how much turned into a customer that helps in calculation of ROI.
So this is where Digital Marketing is so ahead of Traditional Marketing.

How Does Google Actually Work
Think of Google as a massive warehouse, where everyone puts their piece of Knowledge to be used by anyone.
So when anyone submits their piece of content, google sends its worker (Spiders/Crawlers) to scan it and to extract out the information out of it
Once it finds out what the content is about, it gives it a rank.
Now, this ranking depends on many factors. It is a very big and crucial concept that I shouldn’t start here. (I will certainly tell you about the ranking factors of Google soon).
Now if someone search for the similar keyword, Google brings out only that piece of content from the warehouse.
So yes, this is how it works.
This is how Google knows, what to bring out. Don’t worry, I know it might be hard to understand it right now. I will make everything clear very soon
